It is recommended around midsummer time for any small fruit or blossom are pinched from the vine to allow the larger fruit to receive the maximum water and nutrients possible. The plants will need 1 to 2 inches of water weekly. To lessen the risk of disease be sure to water at soil level and keep the melons off the ground. Avoid moving the vines as they are delicate and easily damaged. The melons are ready for harvest when they have taken on a primarily tan color and are easily detached from the vine.
