San Marzano tomatoes are a variety well known for having a strong sweet taste, deep red, firm pulp, a low seed count and skin which is easily removed. For those reasons the small, oblong fruits produced by the San Marzano plant are nearly ideal for canning, sun drying and making into tomato paste.
