Red Leaf lettuce grows best in moist soil between 35 and 75 degrees. This plant likes cooler weather however it can tolerate heat as well. Do not overcrowd lettuce as this causes the plant to take on a more bitter taste. Harvest the plant after approximately 45 days, or the leaves only at approximately 21 days.
